What is the LSBPIE?
The Louisiana State Board of Private Investigator Examiners (LSBPIE) is the state regulatory body that licenses and oversees all private investigators operating in Louisiana. Established under Louisiana Revised Statute 37:3501 et seq., the LSBPIE sets education, training, and conduct requirements for licensed PIs.
To obtain a Louisiana PI license, an applicant must have a minimum of three years' experience in investigative work (or equivalent education), pass a written examination, pass a background check, and maintain liability insurance. Licensed PIs must renew their licenses regularly and comply with the LSBPIE's code of conduct.
It is illegal to perform private investigation work for compensation in Louisiana without a valid LSBPIE license. You can verify any PI's license status at the LSBPIE's official website.
